Basalt and Marble

Basalt lava stones are volcanic, erupted from the belly of 'mother earth'. Hot basalt lava stones are used for their penetrative warmth to help release deep muscular tension, congestion and improve the general circulation. There is something deeply spiritual about being cocooned in the heat of these lava stones, as if enveloped by a warm embrace in the arms of Mother Earth.

Chilled marble stones are used for their cooling, decongesting and cleansing action. They have a refreshing and invigorating action on the body. Marble stones are recrystallized limestone from the ocean floor that has been subjected to immense geological pressures.

These stones have been shaped by nature over hundreds of years and washed in her rivers giving us beautifully smooth stones of all shapes and sizes.

Some stones are placed on the table, to line up either side of your spine, which you lie on. Other stones are placed on the chakra points of the body, naturally balancing energy, and others are tucked around the body to infuse you with their warmth. Mary Hannigan, the founder of LaStone therapy, calls the physiological response to this alternating of temperatures - vascular gymnastics.
